What is So Hard About Car Seat Safety
Think of it like reading stereo instructions, or even a religious text: you may get a cerebral understanding of it, but it never truly sinks in until you actually head out and see what it looks like in real life. The Bible, The Torah, DVD players, they are all the same regarding the instructions given not making sense until you actually attempt to implement them either in your life or in your work. That said, I completely understand that reading about car seat safety isn’t one of the highest priorities in your life right now, but it just might be the most important thing… here is why.
If you do not read up on car seat safety and gain a rather intensive understanding on how your car seats work, what could happen to your child if you were to be accidentally rammed into by an unaware driver? Will your child be safe from the hazardous lashing back and forth of your vehicle? Are all of the straps in place for your baby to be safe and secure in the case of a sudden jolt? You would be surprised at how many babies are either severely injured, or in some cases, killed as a result of not being properly strapped into their car seats.
Why, it was just a couple of weeks ago that my child felt what it was like to be a part of a statistic. I was driving through a small town that I knew quite well. I grew up there, and I was on my way to bring my ten month old to see his grandmother for the first time. Just before I was about ready to pull into her driveway, another car, having just crossed over the bridge on the other side of the road, accidentally ran into my car’s backside. I had only purchased the car a few months prior to this accident, and my car seat was brand new as well. Fortunately for me, my mother babysat all of the time for our neighbors all of the time, so I got to witness the installation and utilization of the car seats they had back then. Without that experience, I wouldn’t of had my car seat strapped in properly and my baby could have been seriously injured, though she was not exempt. I had failed to look up car seat safety tips on the internet, and, as a result, I didn’t understand how to fully strap her into the car seat. She experienced some minor neck pain for a few weeks after that little incident.
Point is, I do not want you to make the same mistake. My child could have been killed in that accident, which would have devastated me, my wife and my parents (both natural and through marriage) for the rest of our lives, not to mention the life my baby would not have been able to live.
